How Come?

How come I reinforce my grip on whatever I'm carrying when I walk over a storm drain in the parking lot, even
if it's too big to fit through the grate holes?
How come when I see a security guard in a store I instantly feel like I've got stolen merchandise in my bag?
How come I feel like I'm the only one who thinks wedding ceremonies are puzzlingly misogynistic and horribly outdated? Why are people still getting married?
